February 12, 2012: Jimmy Obleda, a former professional player and the current Director of Player Development with Fullerton Rangers, has been named Youth National Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. LAS VEGAS, NV (November 20, 2011) - The WCDA announced the players who will play in the 2011 All-Star Game sponsored by adidas at the Las Vegas Thanksgiving Classic. The players will be divided into two teams for the game, which will be played at 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 26th at the Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex.

The WCDA All-Star Team is composed of high school seniors selected on the basis of nominations received from directors, coaches and scouts, and is based upon a player’s individual performance on the field and overall contribution to his team.

2011 All-Academic Team Announced

LAS VEGAS, NV (November 16, 2011) - The WCDA announced the players who will play in the 2011 All-Academic Game sponsored by adidas at the Las Vegas Thanksgiving Classic. The players will be divided into two teams for the game, which will be played at 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 26th at the Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex.

The WCDA All-Academic Team is selected on the basis of nominations received from directors, coaches and scouts, and is based upon a player’s individual performance on the field as well as his academic achievement.

All college coaches attending the showcase will receive a detailed roster with each player’s GPA and contact information.

Diablo FC 94 Tops in North Pacific

(August 15, 2011): Diablo FC 94 topped the North Pacific U17 age group with 4 wins and 0 losses last weekend at the WCDA regional games in Danville, CA. In route to the perfect weekend, Diablo scored 12 goals and conceded 0.

WPFC 98 Black Shine in Utah

(August 26, 2011): WPFC 98 Black completed a 4-game sweep in Utah during the U13/U14 regional games played in Sandy, Utah. After downing Sparta 99 Premier 4-0, the boys defeated FC Portland 3-2 and La Roca Futbol Club 4-1 in two spirited matches. On Sunday morning, WPFC defeated its local rival, Crossfire Premier 3-1 to cap a perfect weekend in terms of results.

More importantly, the team continue to develop under coach Wade Webber, who stresses long-term development over results. WPFC 98 Black play in Division 1 of Washington State's Regional Club League, which is the highest level of competition available in the state.

U17 NM Rush Win Far West Regionals

(July 1, 2011) Congratulations to the New Mexico Rush 94 Argonauts for winning the USYS Farwest Regionals in Boise, ID. On the day of the final, the team started the day at 8:30 taking on Utah’s La Roca Premier (another team participating in the WCDA). Rush would go up 1-0 about 15 minutes into the first half only to be answered moments later by La Roca. The next 55 minutes of soccer were very even with both teams creating half chances. New Mexico Rush would grab the lead for good with 12 minutes to play and never look back winning the first Far West title for New Mexico Rush, and only the second Rush team outside of Colorado to win a regional title (Florida Rush won on Friday). The boys finished the weekend a perfect 6-0-0.

Albion SC BU16 Crowned Cal South National State Cup Champions

(June 24, 2011) Albion SC's BU16 team continue to dominate the youth soccer scene winning the Cal South National State Cup. The title of Cal South Champion will send the team to the Region IV championship in Boise, Idaho in June. The team has already secured a spot in the USYSA National Championships this July in Arizona after winning the US National League and was still very focused and determined to come away as the Cal South State Champions. The goal this summer is to be State, Regional, and National Champions.

Update: the team advanced all the way to the semifinals of the Farwest Regionals before falling to Eastside FC 94 Red in the final.

Fullerton Rangers '93 Win WCDA U17 Championship

(June 6, 2011, Redmond, WA) - It took 100 minutes and kicks from the mark, but Fullerton Rangers 93 outlasted New Mexico Rush Nike 94 Argonauts to win the WCDA’s inaugural U17 Finals 2-1. The finals were played as part of Crossfire Premier’s College Camp with over 40 college coaches in attendance during the weekend.

The outcome wasn’t decided until Fullerton’s Trevor Verone fired home Fullerton’s 6th kick from the penalty spot. On the Argonauts’ 6th attempt, Fullerton keeper, Steven Barrera, dove low to his right to make a stunning save that paved the way for Verone’s game winner.

Each team scored once in the first 100 minutes -- 90 minutes of regulation followed by two 5-minute overtime periods. Fullerton took the lead in the 35th minute as Austin Burke fired home following a pass into the box from the right flank by Conner Bevan.

Early in the 2nd half, New Mexico grabbed the momentum and were rewarded with the equalizer in the 53rd minute. Left back, Justin Schimidt, served up a corner from the left side of the area, and Tyler Nials rose to head the ball high into the top left corner of the Rangers’ net.

After a contentious first 20 minutes of the second half, the game opened up as each team pushed forward in search of the game winner. Fullerton keeper, Steven Barrera, made a tricky save in the first overtime period on the near post to deny the Argonauts, and he also made sure on Justin Schmidt’s driven ball on the last kick of the second overtime period.

Fullerton was a perfect 4-0 on the weekend, and New Mexico was 2-2, its two losses coming at the hands of the eventual champions. Congratulations to both teams for a superbly-coached, well-played and very entertaining final.

WCDA U17 Finals This Weekend

(June 3, 2011) - The WCDA U17 Finals got off to a flying start this evening with New Mexico Rush 94 Argonauts meeting Fullerton Rangers 93. Fullerton’s Nick Escalante got his team off to a fast start with a goal in the 9th minute following a great individual effort. After a Messi-like run down the right side of the field, Nick cut across the box put the ball on his left and found the net with a low shot to the right of the keeper.

Eight minutes later, New Mexico Rush’s superb left back, Justin Schmidt leveled from just outside the center of the 18 following a throw-in. The remainder of the half was a back and forth affair, with the Argonauts coming close in the 28th minute. Fullerton keeper Steven Barrera was active during the entire first half, and on this occasion, slid out to deny an approaching Argonaut who was alone on the left side of the goal.

During the second half, Fullerton began to get back much of the possession that belonged to the Argonauts in the first 45 minutes. As the half wore on, Fullerton looked the more likely to score. As full-time expired, Fullerton served up a corner kick that bounced around inside the 6-yard box before falling kindly to Alex Hansen who made no mistake. With Fullerton up 2-1 New Mexico had one last rush before the whistle blew, but the Argonauts could not conjure up a goal to share the points.

In the other game of the evening, FC Portland 93 Navy downed Crossfire 93 Collings 3-1. FC Portland jumped out on top with a 10th minute goal. Crossfire got even in the 26th minute. However, FC Portland added two goals in the second half to seal the win in the teams’ opening match of the Finals.

All four teams are back on the field tomorrow as the finals continue:
